Looking back at my career , I feel very fortunate that as a young girl of 20 , I was accepted and welcomed into the world of makeup artistry and entertainment .
Beginning my career as a makeup artist in Toronto during the 80`s was a very exciting place to be . Music videos were just coming on the scene , commercials were been shot on a daily basis , models filling their portfolios, fashion shoots and huge fashion shows down at the metro convention center. It seemed every weekend in the summer months there was a wedding with a nervous young bride and her maids. I was very busy . This was the time when two young Toronto entrepreneurs developed their new makeup line called M.A.C. and were pedaling it to all of us in the industry .
Things only intensified when I was recruited by the CBC team with their incredibly diverse programming . Jumping from Hockey night in Canada with Ron & Don to Marketplace or the National with Peter Mansbridge or to any of the countless shows that were being aired by CBC . Throughout all of this hectic fast paced living I was working and learning with the best in the industry and this is when I went from being what the pro`s call a ``makeup applier`` to ``makeup artist`` .
Eventually the big T.V. and Film union I.A.T.S.E. came calling and I was on the move again , this time into the world of 12-18 hour days . As I said on my home page ``makeup in every conceivable situation `` and I might add condition . Sweltering summer days where makeup would be melting off actors faces or night shoots from dusk till dawn in the dead of winter . Hundreds of looks, skin types , men , women and children of every age and nationality ! Every kind of product with all their different nuances from all over the world . The use of airbrushing and technique . Special effects from bullet wounds to blackeyes . After years of learning the ropes and working in the trenches my next move was , ``Head of Department`` or what we call ``Key Makeup Artist``. Weekly concept meetings , budgets, the hiring of staff and keeping them busy processing the daily talent . All of this while being the personal artist to the various big name stars that have graced my chair and always under the watchful eyes of the executive producers in Hollywood .
This all came to a screeching halt with the most important job of my life , motherhood ! Which is where you find me today . The chair in my studio is open to all , from film festival stars and loyal clients to multi media shoots, corporate videos, brides, everyday people wanting a headshot to the neighborhood kids wanting halloween makeup, it doesn`t matter . Nothing gives me more satisfaction than watching a person leave my chair with a renewed sense of self confidence and ready to put their best foot forward no matter what the occasion .
